Hi Everybody
Misc| No Comments »Lots of things are changing. Lots of things remain exactly the same. Musically, things have taken a giant leap forward. I’m in a band now. Sure, we use my name, and i still write and stuff, but i am firmly entrenched as one-third of a rock and roll band. A good one, too.
First I met and started to rehearse with Daniel Douglass, a new guy at work. We played on headphones in my studio with an electronic drum kit. Daniel beat the living shit out of that kit. I liked him right away. He’s a big fan of the Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Wilco, and a lot of great indie music i otherwise never would have heard. His love of music, of seeking out and finding good new music, never ceases to amaze me. I had known Screamin’ Steve for a year or so before he started dropping hints that he would play bass long enough for me to get on my feet and find someone else. I knew Steve at work as a great guy, always a kind word, an old school metal head like me, and a fine guitarist who seemed to always be in 16 bands. You cant imagine the intensity that that guy lives his life in. All music, all the time. And when he plays, he is not shy about showing you how truly happy he is in that moment. He dropped guitar for bass, and is now focusing all that intensity on this band. Im really happy playing in a good band with my friends again. I missed it a lot.
We did our first gig to feel each other out. It went great. We were so fired up with adrenalin I felt sick when it was over. I couldnt believe the reception we got from a handful of friends and a room full of strangers who had just paid to see our first gig. Our second gig was at the Whisky a-Go-Go on Sunset strip. We were a hell of a lot tighter, and for a birds eye review, see above. For all the bitching that goes on about playing in L.A., we’ve had Nothin’ But A Good Time, everyone’s cool, and the audiences are genuinely warm and receptive. For us, so far anyway.
A bunch of other shit happened too. This isn’t a blog. Moving on.
Look for new music soon, I’m trying to post some pics too. Wish us Luck.
